In Atlanta, Georgia.... getting a flat tire happens more often than a driver would like.
The brutal and honest fact of the matter is that if getting a flat tire isn't bad enough,
not having a spare tire to install onto the vehicle to get back on the road quickly makes
the event even more frustrating. The harsh reality is that many vehicles these days just
just don't come with spare tires anymore. Now we've researched this and there are at least (2) reasons why vehicles don't come with spare tires anymore.
The 1st reason is because the spare tire carries an average extra weight of 25 lbs and based on what we've found on Google, it's saying that the extra weight reduces the fuel economy and fuel efficiency of the vehicle.
The 2nd reason is because of the simple and most obvious fact that vehicles just don't have any room in the vehicle to store and transport a spare tire.
Since 2011, we've been performing Mobile Tire Replacement services for vehicles and motorists here in the local Atlanta, Georgia area for literally thousands of motorists on a 24 hour basis, around the clock in many locations throughout our city.
Though there are many challenges that may arise while performing this type of mobile tire replacement job, we always seem to work through it with our customers.
Some obstacles that we face upon arriving at a vehicle requiring a mobile tire replacement service are:
1. An unforeseen or barely visible crack or bend in the rim which prevents a replacement tire from holding air in the tire once installed onto the rim itself. At which point the rim would need to be repaired in order for an installed tire to hold air pressure after being inflated to the correct tire pressure. There are (2) options.... mobile rim welding or taking it to a professional rim repair location.
A missing or not-present wheel lock key which prevents our roadside technician from removing the wheel from the vehicle in order to transport the wheel to a local tire dealer to have the bad/flat tire replaced. They are usually located in the vehcile's glove box or in the rear trunk area in a Styrofoam kit
A missing spare tire removal rod or physical adapter tool to lower a spare tire from underneath a pickup truck or SUV vehicle. Not having or being able to locate that rool is extremely frustrating.
Stripped, worn, damaged or severely rusted or seized lug nuts. Stripped lug nuts usually become rounded off due to failed attempts to remove the lug nut usually with the wrong sized socket or 4-way tire tool.
A wheel that hasn't had a tire change in a long time may be rusted or seized onto the wheel hub itself (which is the big round piece of metal that the wheel slides onto) even after successfully removing all of the lug nuts. Extreme heat and friction usually causes this condition over time for a wheel that hasn't been changed in a while.
A broken or damaged tire valve stem which is the little black rubber or metallic stem where the air is put into the tire. Rubber valve stems over time can become dry-rotted and they can also be cut easily rendering them as useless and then they will usually cause a tire to lose air either quickly or slowly. At which point they would have to be immediately replaced in order for the tire to hold air after being inflated to the correct tire pressure which for most average tire is between 32 psi to 44 psi (pounds of air per square inch = psi)).
Damaged wheel suspension parts such as a damaged upper or lower control arm, inner or outer tie rods, broken cv-axle, damaged upper or lower ball joint, broken spindle, broken brake rotor, damaged wheel shocks or wheel struts (causing the vehicle's fender to rest directly onto the wheel). A severely bent frame.
Hard to Find or rare tire sizes such as 21", 22", 24", 26", 28" or 30"tires or low profile tire such as a 35 series, 30 series, 25 series, 20 series, 15 series or 10 series tire (which requires full tire pressure at all times in order to support the full weight of s vehicle). Or ultra wide tires such as a 275 mm, 285 mm, 295 mm, 305 mm, 315 mm, or 325 mm tire which refers to the actual width of a tire.
Locating a specific tire brand which would be an exact match for the other tires on the vehicle during a (flat tire - no spare) tire breakdown where there is NO SPARE TIRE present in the vehicle which could have easily been installed onto the vehicle.
A pickup truck or SUV that has an OLD or RUSTED or SEIZED spare tire lowering mechanism ( a metal box under the truck containing the metal chain that is holding the spare tire up underneath the vehicle) that won't allow the spare tire to be lowered from underneath the vehicle even after the spare tire rod has been inserted into the rear bumper in order to crank and lower the spare tire from underneath the vehicle.
There are many reasons why there would be challenges regarding completing a mobile tire replacement service but we are usually prepared as we are connected to and we network with mobile mechanics and mobile rim welders within our local service areas in order to get our customers back in the road fast.
